Wisconsin and head coach Paul Chryst picked up commitment No. 7 in their 2023 recruiting class as Clairton (Pa.) Thomas Jefferson edge rusher Jordan Mayer gave his verbal pledge following an official visit during the weekend of June 10.
“The atmosphere in Madison, the stadium. the coaches, and playing in the Big Ten. They have the top defense in the country every year,” Mayer said in a previous interview.
Mayer, a one-time Boston College commit, chose the Badgers over Cincinnati, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Rutgers, Georgia Tech, Duke, and more. The three-star prospect re-opened his recruitment in April, shortly after receiving a scholarship offer from UW.
“The city of Madison was nice, actually,” Mayer said. “It sits on a whole thing of water. The capitol is right there and lights up the city at night. The atmosphere was insane. It looked crazy.
Per 247sports, Mayer is the nation’s No. 54 ranked edge rusher in the class of 2023. As a junior, Mayer tallied 39 tackles and 2.0 sacks. The Badgers plan to use the 6-foot-4, 235-pounder at outside linebacker.
“They like me as an edge rusher, the exact same thing that TJ Watt played in college,” said Mayer. “They said I’m identical to TJ Watt. They said I’m physical, a hard worker, plays to the end of the whistle. They know I work. That’s what they like about me.”
