Another day, another Metroidvania! You love to see it, right? The latest title, 9 Years of Shadows, comes from developer Halberd Studios and is due for launch on Switch later this year.
Visually, the game looks spectacular, with some lovely use of colour and lighting throughout. We’re also pleased to see some familiar faces lend their talents to the game’s music, including Mega Man’s Manami Matsumae, Metal Gear’s Norihiko Hibino, and Castlevania’s Michiru Yamane.
For 9 long years, the world has been submerged in the deepest of shadows, robbing every object and living creature of their color. Once a thriving civilization, the people have forgotten the warmth of the sun, the joy of laughter and the promise of a prosperous future.
Many brave souls have tried to venture inside the corrupting depths of Talos Castle, a long-abandoned orphanage from which the curse stemmed, but with each futile attempt, resignation became the daily fare for the people, all hope lost. Except for one person.
Armed with little other than her halberd and sheer nerve, Europa’s daunting quest is clear: enter the castle, find the source of darkness, and return color to the lands before it is too late.
I can’t wait for it. I did the kickstarter for the game but getting the steam version. From the kickstarter alpha demos I have played it is going to be a good game.
@Ralizah When I realized how saturated the genre became, I basically have stuck to The Messenger, Super Metroid, and SOTN. It’s really hard to find games that aren’t just cosmetically different from each other.
I thought this game wasn’t coming out until 2023…? Was the Kickstarter for this game funded sooner than expected, or did something else happen? Either way I am looking forward to playing 9 Years of Shadows (which I could’ve sworn had a different name)!
