According to TMZ, officials say the furry friend somehow wandered into the gorilla habitat Sunday, after sneaking inside the San Diego Zoo Safari Park and visitors, who formed a crowd, were just as anxious to try to get the dog to climb out and get to safety.
The situation saw gorillas chase down the harmless dog at a few instances but kept their distance while staring at the foreign animal trapped in their enclosure.
According to Newsweek, videos of the incident have gone viral on social media by witnesses at the zoo, where one TikTok video shows the dog running from the gorillas as they chase the dog down. The dog appears frightened as the gorillas approach it, while onlookers can be heard gasping in fear when the large animals move towards the smaller animal.
Fortunately, according to TMZ, zoo staff ended up moving the gorilla so that officers from the San Diego County Humane Society could get in and safely remove the dog.
And even better news, the furry friend was given the name of “Mighty Joe Young” by officials and the Humane Society is hopeful its owner will come to bring him back home.
