There’s a new insider on social media, and while we tend to look at them through furrowed brows here at Push Square, there’s no denying that The Snitch knows what’s going down. Not only did they leak the entirety of Sony’s State of Play earlier in the month, but they also accurately outed The Last of Us: Part I’s release date.
The tipster’s latest tweet all but confirms that something is happening with the Persona series, then. “P3R5ON4,” they said earlier today. Now it doesn’t take a genius to determine what’s being teased here: Persona 3 FES, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal are, presumably, coming to more platforms. Given the timing and prior PlayStation exclusivity, we’re going to go out on a limb and assume they’ll be announced for Xbox platforms.
However, there may very well be interest for PlayStation players as well, as Persona 3 FES has never been playable on the PS5 or PS4 – and despite Atlus porting Persona 4 Golden to the PC a couple of years ago, that remains restricted to the PS Vita as well. We assume, if new console ports are indeed coming, that they’ll launch on PlayStation as well – but you never know these days, eh? We’re not going to lie, we would find ports of all three Persona dancing games amusing after this tease.
Perhaps of interest, Persona 5 was recently removed from the PS Plus Collection, suggesting there is some movement occurring with the series. We’ll of course keep an anime eye open and let you know what actually occurs later today.
Given how bad the Relationship between Sega and Sony is these days I assume P4G and P3 will be only coming to Xbox and PC. Sega released 2 new Hatsune Miku Games on Xbox but not PS even tho the Series was a stable on Sony Platforms in the past
It’s gonna be a classic Atlus moment if they put Persona on Xbox and none of the games on PlayStation, Switch or PC. And if they do something like spinoffs that would also be a classic Atlus moment. I’d like for Persona 2 to be on modern consoles but would like to see 3-5 playable on other systems
I’m up for playing a persona 4 remaster. Really enjoyed Golden and even got the plat, on VITA, whereas I only finished Persona5 once and had no motivation to play again for the plat. The dungeons where too long without save points and the whole thing became tedious.
I’d also like the earlier Persona games as i deprioritised them, due to to their lack of a trophy campaign, and never did get around to them given my huge backlog.
If they release on xbox without PS im done supporting Atlus titles and good luck finding an actual fanbase for JRPGS nonetheless players who will play stuff if its not on gamepass
I’ve become so jaded at Atlus that I didn’t even take that tweet to mean p3 fes, p4g, and p5r are coming to xbox (and presumably playstation). My assumption is the dancing trilogy of games are coming to xbox and gamepass.
This feels like a make or break situation. Either ATLUS goes full heels dug into the dirt ATLUS and makes an utterly mind boggling move, or they let common sense kick in and release their backlog of treasured games for everyone to be able to enjoy wherever they play. This is bordering on astonishing.
I have a feeling we will see the Persona Dancing games coming to more platforms, instead of the actual RPGs. While I would love to see Persona 3 and 4 coming to PS4 and other platforms, Atlus has been weird with its ports.
Switch users have been yelling for years for some proper Persona releases too. I would love to see 3 and 4 on Switch. I never finished either of them and they would work well on the go.
Persona 5 is my favorite JRPG ever. It is just so good. I never played Persona 5 Royal, but I own it. I’m waiting a little while longer before playing the games again. While it is great more people will get to play the Persona games, playing JRPGs anywhere else but on PlayStation feels like sacrilege to me.
But it would be preferable if something actually came of Joker coming to Smash much like how Cloud came to Smash in 2015 and then a bunch of Final Fantasy games (including FF7) was announced for Switch in 2018.
Sega would be mad to only put them on xbox, they wouldn’t sell in Japan and xbox doesn’t really have enough Western players who are interested in Japanese jrpgs, bringing persona to xbox only would just kill off the series
@RBMango the theory is it’s someone at YouTube who’s able to view uploaded videos before they become public. One of the supporting pieces of evidence is how they leaked the exact length of a FF16 trailer.
That leaker is truly something else. I had given up on the rumor mill entirely as the last two years have been extremely wild and outlandish at times but following this guy seems to be worth it. Wondering how long his streak will last, lol.
Everyone here is focused on the 3D personas, and I know those are the teased ones, but man I would love to see the PSP Persona 1 & 2 versions ported to PS4|5, XSX|S & Switch.
Apparently leaks the entire state of play, but then goes obnoxiously vague when it comes to persona. And it feels like just about every leaker out there does that with persona lol
@Judal27 I think dropping the entire State of Play like that gained him credibility. Now… He knows he can tease us and toy with our emotions and we’ll bite. Lol
@IonMagi JRPG’s don’t sell great on Xbox and Sony has some kind off deal with Persona so i highly doubt Xbox is getting exclusive Persona releases. If Persona is coming to anything not PS its PC and the Switch.
@IonMagi There’s a lot to truth to that. Obvious and ATLUS have never quite meshed. People said nothing would ever come of it, but MS and SEGA did strike a partnership of some sort. Somewhere or another, there’s something in it for both of them.
@WallyWest PC and Xbox development aren’t entirely different. Could be a Game Pass release, which could hit both Xbox consoles and the Windows Store. Could be a huge draw for PC Game Pass and a nice bonus for Xbox consoles. I highly doubt if MS chalked up a deal for these games it would only include consoles.
@SplooshDmg I don’t think MS would even care for Persona, JRPG games are not their thing. Sony clearly have a hold on Persona, its why many suspect P5R and P4G have never touched Switch despite the Switch being the perfect system for the series.
@WallyWest Even if they only sell 10,000 copies on xbox it’s important for mindshare, knowing that people can experience these games on the platform. They’d obviously sell huge numbers on PC and Switch though so if they don’t come to xbox I can at least see them on those platforms.
Persona 6 Xbox exclusive. We all know it’s true. Kinda like how the Yakuza director said that Microsoft and Nintendo weren’t interested, with the former being actively disinterested. Then when Microsoft discovers that the series makes money, all of a sudden they have a timed exclusive on Yakuza: Like A Dragon.
What I’m really trying to say is that Sega is a fickle company. They will forego any loyalty for the person who is willing to pay more for their games. And why shouldn’t they? It is business after all.
@WallyWest I honestly just don’t think that’s true. Spike Chunsoft is churning out Game Pass after Game Pass release, so clearly it’s working for both parties. If I were a gambling man, I’d say we might even see the AI: The Somnium Files sequel get announced day one for Game Pass today. MS has clearly said it’s working hard to secure Japanese content, but I think it’s easier said than done. MS is working to build their presence on PC as well as consoles. Not to mention, turn based RPGs like Persona are beyond perfect games for Xbox streaming on phones. I think in terms of business sense, there’s a dozen reasons why they’d want it, it’s just getting it.
I’d like to be able to play Persona 3 and 4 on modern consoles, the PlayStation is part of that of course. Right now the best you can do is the originals or PS2 classics on PS3. Please Sega and Atlus?
